Transracial Adoption

Many families become multiracial through transracial adoption.  Multiracial families work hard to understand and intertwine different cultures and to celebrate the family’s diversity.

Children are intuitive and smart and quick at learning.  Transracially adopted children become very adept at building bridges between cultures and races.  These children benefit from diversity in their schools and churches and playgrounds.  These children can teach their parents how to make overtures of friendship and communication.  It behooves all parents to learn from the wisdom and unique perspective of their children, and this is especially true in the multiracial family.

Since 1994, the federal Multiethnic Placement Act has prohibited the use of a child's or parent's race, color or national origin to delay or deny an adoptive placement [A Guide to Multiethnic Placement Act of 1994].
